Did we miss out on Conceptual Art when we judged Gaga's outfit of disgusting ?

So could she have been that daring or on the limit of disgusting to wear crap like that...
that's what we all heard when Gaga appeared on MTV awards stage wearing MEAT !

we all remember the shock, and being a Gaga fan , i kind of wondered, what was it actually that led Gaga to push that image thru, specially that she had appeared on Vogue tokyo cover previously with the same outfit.
which got me researching thru and falling upon  MARK RYDEN.

Could it have been that it was a tribute to one of the most influential american artists of our times MARK RYDEN's "incarnation" in 2009 below.
the painter is famously known for his conceptual reaslism.
quoting:

Ryden's first show was in 1998. TitledThe Meat Show hosted in Pasadena and consisted of eighteen paintings all featuring children, symbols, 1950s child-hod toys and fixtures along with butcher-like cuts of meat. Of this Ryden states that the texture, color and look of raw meat lends itself to painting
Ryden also pointed out that as consumers we often disconnect that gorgeous slab of tasty steak from the very process that got it there; that once it's on our plates we tend to forget that it came from a once living animal.
